The Lightning Preservation Group (LPG)
We are a group of enthusiasts based at Bruntingthorpe airfield Nr Leicester who are dedicated to maintaining two of the last few remaining English Electric (BAC) LIGHTNING aircraft in airworthy condition.

Regular Open Days are held throughout the summer
during which both LIGHTNING F MK 6 aircraft perform
runs down the 3000 metre long runway at speeds
just short of liftoff, with their two Rolls Royce
AVON MK 302 engines operating at full reheat.

Re-erection of the RAF Wattisham QRA Shed is 70% complete thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

We have been extremely busy!
All main steelwork is now erected & the concrete floor finished. Roof was completed by the end of Nov 07 and the next stage is the front and rear doors rehanging. Completion is in sight......but.......... Further funds are however still desperately needed! Despite your already generous support we still have a funding gap.Would you like to make a donation ?

The Lightning Preservation Group (LPG) are currently raising funds to re-erect the former RAF Wattisham Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) hangar at Bruntingthorpe Airfield, Leics.The hangar is historic in ti's own right, being one of only three built in the UK, it will protect both aircraft from the elements and serve as a unique museum and memorial to the "Lightning Force" and the Cold War period
£120,000 is needed to accomplish are aim.
The fund currently stands at £92,000
Re-erection work is well under way! The steel work has been erected & concrete floor finished! Roof cladding will commence on 5th Nov 2007. For a current progrees update please visit our "Message Board" Now more than ever, we need YOUR support NOW in order to be able to complete this project. The "Q"shed, once complete, will form a unique museum of everything Lightning as well as stopping the aircraft deteriorating thereby keeping these historic aircraft serviceable and available for you, the public, to enjoy. If you have the time, then please attend one of the Open Days. If you wish to make a donation any amount however small will be welcome. Donations of £50 or greater will ensure that your name is permanently displayed on the QRA sheds alongside for example the likes of:- Wg Cdr "Bee" Beamont CBE, DSO*, DFC*, DL, FRAeS. |

| The Lightning Preservation Group are extremely sad to have to report the death of one of their most experienced pilots. Brian Carroll who was a regular, popular & enthusiastic performer at the LPG Open Days, passed away peacefully on the 2nd December 2004. Brian will be greatly missed by his family, friends & colleagues. |
